How to get certified 

In order to get certified by Google Ads, you need to sign in with your Google account to the academy for ads website and then pass at least 2 tests:

  1. Google Adwords Fundamentals exam
  2. One of the other five Google Ads exams available on the website

Google Ads Fundamentals test

The Ads Certification test consists of 65 questions and gives you 90 minutes to answer them.

In order to pass the test, you’ll need a score of 80% or higher.

This test covers basic concepts of AdWords, including benefits of advertising on Google Ads and best practices for optimizing campaigns.

The Google Ads fundamentals test is mandatory and you have to pass it in order to get certified.

Other Google Tests

After completing the fundamentals test, you will need to pass one of the other 5 tests:

  • Search Advertising

Number of questions: 102

Time to complete: 120 min

Ads Search Certification covers the basics and intermediate concepts, including best practices for creation and optimization of search ad campaigns across the Search Network.

You will be asked questions about the fundamentals of Search, such as ad position, ad rank, broad matches, CPC definitions, quality score and ad extensions.

  • Display Advertising

Number of questions: 102

Time to complete: 120 min

You will need to know the value of the Google Display Network and how to plan a GDN campaign. You will also be asked about YouTube and display ads on mobile devices.

  • Mobile Advertising

Number of questions: 70

Time to complete: 90 min

Be ready to answer questions about mobile-specific bidding and targeting strategies, mobile ad formats, mobile consumers and how your app or mobile site can help them make decisions.

  • Video Advertising

Number of questions: 74

Time to complete: 90 min

In order to pass the test, you’ll need to know how video ads on YouTube and the Google Display Network can help clients meet their advertising goals.

You will also be asked about video ad formats and how to create video campaigns.

  • Shopping Advertising

Number of questions: 78

Time to complete: 90 min

This test touches the basics and advanced concepts, including creating a Merchant Center account and product data feed, creating and optimizing Shopping campaigns.

You need to be familiar with how shopping ads work and know as much as possible about shopping campaigns bidding and optimization.

For the majority of the above tests, you will also need a score of 80% or higher to pass.

General Info about the Ads Certification test

You can take the certification tests in no less than 19 different languages.

Before taking the tests, you can prepare with the help of the videos and reading material on the academy of ads.

How Long Does an Ads Certification Last?

Certifications last for a year, so after that time period, you will need to re-take the tests in order to get certified again.
